It was originally the capital of the state of Ji during the Western Zhou Dynasty. Later, it became the capital of the state of Yan. In 938 AD, the Liao Dynasty made it a secondary capital called Nanjing. In 1153, the Jin Dynasty established it as their capital Zhongdu. In 1272, Kublai Khan named it Dadu (Great Capital). The Ming Dynasty renamed it Beiping, and in 1421 the Yongle Emperor moved the capital from Nanjing to Beijing, giving it its current name. The Qing Dynasty kept Beijing as the capital until 1912. In 1949, Beijing was again chosen as the capital of the People's Republic of China.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eToday, Beijing offers an endless array of historical and cultural attractions, including the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, and the Great Wall.
